I have been a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Greenville, NC for almost 20 years. In addition to providing confidential clinical services for ages 16-seniors, I am a supervisor for provisionally licensed counselors, specializing in working with school counselors. I also provide parenting suggestions/advice and resources specifically for parents of foster children, adopted children and/or children with special needs. I am the mother of 5 happy, well-adjusted adult children. My husband and I continue to be therapeutic foster parents, taking in children as young as 2 days old up to age 19. We have adopted two children, including one who has autism, and another who has experienced significant trauma. As such, I have extensive experience raising children with multiple challenges. Before I became a counselor, I was a special education teacher, working with teenagers with behavioral and emotional difficulties. I also was an elementary school counselor in addition to running my private practice.
I have had training in Transactional Analysis and Redecision work and incorporate this theory with almost everyone who comes in for counseling, depending on specific needs. I am passionate about guiding individuals into looking at their childhood “script” and helping them to understand the impact this plays in adulthood. As awareness develops, the process of rewriting your script begins. In other words, you will begin to recognize and change subconscious negative beliefs about yourself. You will learn to love your story and love yourself moving forward.
I also enjoy helping people explore their personal relationships and determining whether these relationships are healthy or toxic. While gaining insight and finding inner strength, you will become empowered through change while learning how to set boundaries and find balance. I incorporate psychoeducation on terms such as Narcissism, Co-dependency, Gas lighting and more.
I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I enjoy working with college students and young adults. Should the client be looking for a Christian perspective, I embrace Biblical principles (such as forgiveness and selflessness) and the understanding of God’s unconditional love for us ALL.
